About The Safe and Sound Protocol
Delivering Messages of Calm and Safety
to Your Nervous System
Are you or your children feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, overstimulated, or depressed? If so, that is a cue from your nervous system that it is out of the safe, connected, and engaged zone known as the "Ventral Vagal" parasympathetic state.
Dr. Stephen Porges designed this simple and effective auditory program to help retrain our nervous system to be happier and calmer. This program is a playlist of familiar music appropriate for children or adults, which has been computer filtered to enhance frequencies and downplay others. The middle ear contains a direct pathway to your nervous system. Through the use of SSP, we can safely deliver messages that are calming and restore your sense of safety.
How It Works
What Is SSP
The Safe and Sound Protocol has a global effect on the brain and nervous system via the inner ear. It is an evidence-based therapeutic tool designed by Dr. Stephen Porges to reset the nervous system. As our brain and body connection becomes more organized and less stressed, we can better process the world around us and become more confident, happy, and engaged.
A practical application of the Polyvagal theory is designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through specially-filtered music.
How It Works & Who It's For
Developed by world-renowned researcher and scientific advisor Dr. Stephen Porges SSP focuses on the impact of your behavior based on what is happening within your body and nervous system regarding a sense of safety, danger, or life threat. A simple and effective 5-hour Auditory Processing Program delivered through an app is broken down into segments over time. This can average up to 4 weeks of listening as directed for your individual SSP journey.

While You Listen
Over-the-ear headphones that are NOT noise-canceling are required. If the noise canceling feature can be turned off it can be used however, we strongly encourage plug-in headphones to reduce exposure to wifi/Bluetooth.
Plan on doing SSP while you have some downtime without interruptions or distractions. It is suggested that you do something that makes you feel safe and calm, be it drawing, coloring, doodling, yoga, meditation, gardening, or just sitting down where you feel peaceful.
You should be present during the sessions if the SSP is for your child. While speaking is discouraged, many options like blocks, legos, doodling, coloring, playdough, or puzzles may work well.
